I just read this article in AlterNet which is an alternative news publication online.

There is so much in the corporate world that the average person does not know. I truly wonder if the CEOs even know the details of the deals they just authorized based on the bottom line.
The World Health Organization classifies processed meat as a Group 1 carcinogen (the same as cigarettes and plutonium) and red meat as a Group 2 carcinogen.
Did you read that sentence carefully?
Processed meat is as hazardous to our health as cigarettes and PLUTONIUM!
On the American Cancer Society website you are encouraged to eat these foods.
But I looked carefully at the LONG first page and did not see anything specific about processed foods. Perhaps Alexandra Rosenmann is referring to an inside page. She wrote the article in AlterNet.
I am certain that many of the processed foods eaten often or as a primary source of nutrition will fall short of what is needed for healthy foods. I do not eat them often. However, I have not eliminated them from my diet. I minimize my contact with them. Is that enough for a Cancer Survivor to do?
